Excel tab on Taskbar won't allow pinned

Windows 10, Office 365. My Excel tab on the taskbar shows some recents and some not recent workbooks. I can right click a recent and say remove and it reappears. I try to pin some of the recents and there is no pinned on the top showing. This is not a problem with Word. I appreciate any ideas.
