Default Pivot Table Refresh

I have a number of Excel workbooks that are set up as Pivot Tables and get their data from different Access mdb's. They all reside on one server and are created in Access 2003.
Users have a shortcut to the unc path for each...they open and refresh the data and then save it to a local location. All of this has been working for months...unfortunately a user wrote over the top of one with a blank sheet. My backup was not good so I recreated the Excel workbook. The connection properties (using PivotPlayPlus) show the correct connection unc path for the mbd...the DSN is MS Access Database which is also on their local machine (same one I have used for all of my pivots). I can open the workbook on my local machine but if I try to refresh it I get a ODBC Microsoft Access error of invalid path...instead of the unc it has a mapped drive letter. I have tried to delete and re-add the dsn but it no luck.
Does anyone know if the path is kept on the local machine?
All of the rest of my pivots refresh just fine and the connection files all are the same (obviously except for the mdb name).
Any ideas?

thanks for any help
