You can underline those characters via Find/Replace, but the underlines will be positioned at the bottom of the line, not at the bottom of those characters.
If you want to have the underlines at the bottom of the characters concerned, replace them with a normal A, C, & L, as appropriate and superscript those characters.

If you format them with a Strikethrough, this appears as an underline which touches the bottom of the characters. It doesn't look that great so perhaps it isn't what you are looking for but it would do at a pinch.

Paul,
Thank you for your reply. I assumed that whatever worked in Word would also work in Excel. The actual text is in an Excel spreadsheet. I followed your instructions in Word and copied the text to the spreadsheet but that did not work. I then found instructions for superscript in Excel, it underlines but not directly under the text. Can you advise or should I post my question in the Excel section. Thanks again Denis. |

To get the best answers and be most helpful on the site, this should be in the Excel forum. I can move it if you want.

Given that you posted in the Word forum and didn't mention Excel, no one would have known that.
I have now moved the thread to the Excel forum. Andrew's approach will work in Excel.
