I'm working with Excel 2000 on a Windows 10 computer.




I have several files that I have configured to make automatic backups (i.e. an "xlk" file). When I open and edit (for example) myfile.xls and then close it, I'm asked if I want to overwrite the file. I answer "Yes" and finish closing the file.


When I check to see if myfile.xls has been updated, its Modification Date tells me that it has, but I also see that the backup file's Modification Date has not been changed and that it has retained its earlier date. Only if I reopen myfile.xls and save it again will the Modification Date of the backup file be updated.



What am I doing wrong?

Using excel 2000.


Sorry mate, but without seeing it cant really help, especially on such an old version.

Here's a bit more:

I did this by clicking File > Save as... and then in the Save as... window I clicked Tools > General Options. Then I checked "Always create backup", clicked Okay and then clicked Save.

I understand that Office 2000 is old, but it works. (I use it because I don't care for the tool bar at the top of the later Office stuff that shows all the icons.

Thanks for replying, and maybe someone else who has and who uses Excel 2000 can step in and give me a hand??

Follow-up:
Saving a backup copy of Excel 2000 by using the Save as... method only saves the backup one time.
I found that I have to use Save as... anew each time I want to update the backup copy.
