Function key F4 stopped working
It used to be when I entered a cell reference (e.g. "=A1") and then pressed F4, it would cycle through various relative and absolute reference choices (e.g. "=$A$1", etc.). Now nothing happens when I press F4. Other function keys work. Is there some setting that inadvertently got changed? |

Still works on mine - you know that you need to have the cell reference selected or be in the actual cell reference? it wont work if you are in a sheet name part of the formula

Yes, I've tried using F4 in every conceivable way - immediately after selecting the cell; later, with the reference highlighted, etc. These methods all used to work, but no longer.

Broken key board ?
Does the F4 key work in other workbooks or software ? |

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I appreciate your help!
I thought the problem was restricted to Excel, but I was wrong. The solution turned out to be very simple. There's an "F Lock" key on my keyboard which I've never intentionally used (or even understood the use of). Pressing it again restored the standard functions of the function keys and solved the problem. |

Interesting ... I've never seen an "F" lock key.
Glad you found an answer. |

In poking around the web for a solution, I learned that most modern keyboards don't have an F-Lock key, but rather a fn key. My (still current) Microsoft 4000 keyboard must be one of the exceptions.
