Why does the total row of my pivot table not tie to the real count using distinct count
Hi all
I am really confused. I made a pivot table and used "distinct count", In doing so, I get a total for the count but it doesn't tie if I added up all the rows manually. Its like the total is the distinct total, but the rows are not. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. I am adding an attachment for an example. Thanks |

Distinct is counting the number of unique numbers in your main data - there are 19 unique numbers in your data

Thanks Purfleet..I totally understand that, the question, I guess, is why wouldn't the grand total reflect that?

I take that back, the grand total DOES reflect that, however, when manually adding the column, its more than that. Is that irrelevant?

The difference is because of the categories - there are 19 unique numbers in the data, but there are 26 unique combinations of number with the L/M/S & colour added.
if you change the orange 13 to 11 in the main data it changes to 18 & 25. It depends on what you are trying to count if it makes a difference |
