Custom grouping for pivot table of ages
We have a list of employees with various information among which is birthdate. I made a pivot table that groups and counts the number of employees for each birth year.
Someone wants these to be further grouped by the generation to which they belong e.g. Boomers (1946-64), Gen X (1977-84), etc. I tried a inserting a timeline, but that's kind of a pain in the butt to use. Any other ideas? |

Here you go.
The Actives tab gets updated periodically but I suppose I could add another field in it after the last column that would put everyone into buckets and pivot on that. Last edited by gebobs; 04-24-2020 at 08:52 AM. |

Yes, if you want to have both annual and generation grouping in the same pivot then that's a very easy way to do it. See attached.

From your post follows, generations are defined on base of birth year, not on base of age.
On sheet Generations, generations are defined. Generation name is read from there based on it's position there. Generation name is added as calculated column into Activities table (it's up to you, do you hide this column or not). And then you can use this column for grouping of pivot. |
