How do you use the find and replace tool to find dates and times in Excel 2013?
Hi all, Can anyone help me with using the Find and Replace tool in Excel 2013 to find a time e.g. 5:45 PM or a particular date format? I've entered the time (5:45PM) into the Find box but nothing is coming up when I click Find Next. I've also tried Options > Format > Number > Date or Time - but still no luck. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance. Cheers |

I'm always uncertain when I have to look for numbers that may be formatted in special ways. But Excel is pretty smart about finding "321" among various currency figures in my checkbook worksheet; it hits on 321, 321.25, 2321.55 and so on. So it can probably do it for times as well.
Can you post the worksheet you're searching in? One of us can try it for ourselves and see whether anything special is required. |

Hi Bob,
Thanks for replying to my post - much appreciated. The problem I was having with finding both dates, and times in particular, was a combination of two schoolboy or in my case schoolgirl errors! I spent a good while this morning going over the custom number formats and option choices, which helped me noticed what I had been doing wrong when using the Find box. It was a lack of attention to detail. There were two things: I was putting a stop between the hour and minutes instead of a colon, and I also wasn't making sure I'd chosen the option 'look in Values' before hitting Find Next. The other with regard to dates was when entering into the Find What box I wasn't careful enough of entering exactly how the date was entered in the worksheet e.g. if it was written in the worksheet as 24/03/2019, I had entered 24/3/2019! Thanks again for your reply. Cheers |

Argh!—"Look in Values" catches me frustratingly often. I swear up and down "That $#! value is right there, I'm looking right at it!". Only minutes or half-hours later I realize it's somehow switched over to Look-in-formula. Sigh.
