shading alternate rows – support.office.com suggestion not helping :-{

support.office.com says

select cells
set up new formatting rule
use formula =MOD(ROW(),2)=0

Tried this … Excel says "the formula you typed contains an error". Any suggestions? If I knew how to read that sort of formula, I would have written my own anyway!
