Default "Corrupt File" Notice on email attachments

I received an excel file attached to an email from someone that I regularly receive files from. When I tried to open it a Microsoft notification box popped up saying the file was corrupt and couldn't be opened.

I tried saving the attachment to my laptop, but the same thing happened. Another person received the same file and they were able to open it.

I tried a little experiment. I sent myself one of my own files as an attachment to an email. I was not able to open the attachment - same corrupt file notice.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

I just upgraded my computer to Windows 10
I use Office 365

How are you accessing your email?

Do you have a different email address you could forward the email to, and see if you still have the problem?

Was that the same file type, eg XLSX? If yes, send yourself a different non-Office file, eg TXT.

Trying to narrow down which app is the problem…

That suggests a system change somewhere, probably security related, especially if you came from Win7 or earlier.

Check the Protected View in the Trust Center. Disable all the protections, & close all Office programs. Try again.
If that solved it, you probably want to re-enable the protections once you've saved the file—they're there for good reasons.

Would you care to share the secret?
There could very well be other people with the same problem that would love a solution.
Thank you in advance
