Unhappy "Workbook not saved" message

This relates to an earlier post, where I described installing then uninstalling Office 2010 (because it screwed stuff up) and ending up with an only partially functioning Office 2003 (which cannot seem to be repaired, even with reinstallation).

My particular problem is that everytime I try to edit and save a workbook, I get a message that says "Workbook not saved", with no further explanation. The only way I can save is in Excel 5.0/95 file format. THis is useless because all my Forms disappear in the process.

Please can anyone help?
