Default Problem Formatting My Charts

I'm using Excel 2000. On worksheet 5 I clicked one of the dates, then clicked Format Axis. A Format Axis box appeared and I clicked Scale. I got what I wanted (see the first image). That's good. I can specify a start and a stop date for my chart.

In the same file but on worksheets 1 through 4, the Scale tab in the Format Axis box contains different parameters (see the second image), and I cannot set my start and stop dates. That's not good.

I've spent hours comparing the two worksheets, trying to figure this out, but have had no success. What do I need to do on worksheets 1 through 4 so that the Scale tab in the Format Axis box looks like the first image?

I'm almost sure, in table the 2nd chart is based on the date is text string instead of date.

To check this,
a) make the date column wider, and remove any alignment. After that dates are aligned to right, texts to left.
b) simply change the date column format to general - dates are then numbers, texts remain same.

@skeezix
In the future please post a sample sheet (go advanced manage attachments) so we can work on ti and avoid cluttering the thread with large images.

@Pecoflyer - I'll send a sample worksheet in the future. Thanks for letting me know, 'cause I don't particularly care for large images in posts either.

@ArviLaanemets - I looked at at the formatting of the date column and verified that there is no alignment. Also, seeing the dates as numbers doesn't work for me - I need to see the dates in the worksheet.

I've tried a lot of things but just cannot get a count of cells with data in a column if that column has text in it, so I'm giving up.

Hi Pecoflyer,
Thanks for your reply.
After a lot of searching I finally found the problem - in the Axes tab that in the Chart Options dialog box I had Category checked when I should have had Time-Scale checked.
Now I am but a little ...
