Default need to catalogue audio, video and PDF articles

I've accumulated (so far, with many more to come in the months and years ahead) about 2,500 audio, video and PDF articles (to do with a project I'm working on) and need to catalogue them (into about 5 categories) so that (hoped for) associates around the world can view or listen to these articles and can do basic sorting by date, category, subject, key words(or not)....etc.. I know this can be done in a database program but would prefer if it can be done in Excel. Let me explain.

For PDF files it's fairly straightforward, but also a bit cumbersome, where I use Adobe Acrobat to create links from a particular cell to a web page or to a page view: the viewer clicks on the link and is taken to a site on the internet or a site in the combined PDFs (of each and every PDF article).

Can anything similar be done with audio (.mp3) and video (.m4v) files/articles? Or are there other software programs that do cataloguing like what I need?
