Default Date Axis on line chart includes dates with no data under them, but text axis causes data to clump

I am trying to get my line graph to not display dates that are not associated with any data. When I change the axis to a text axis (or put apostrophes in front of the dates to make them text), the graph clumps up on the left side of the graph and is just a vertical line. All axis labels are piled on top of each other. Pictures are attached. Any suggestions?

Could you post a workbook instead of a picture? Hard to work with pictures, plus, with a workbook we can see where you are and what you've done.

Here it is. The file was too big so I had to delete one of the worksheets. Thanks

Can you explain with Point 1 Gap what you mean by dates without any associated data?

Do you mean not show 9/22 and 9/23 since they have no data?

The easiest solution, create a pivot chart.

Yes, I mean 9/22 and 9/23. I do not want them to be displayed on the chart, I want the horizontal axis to skip from 9/21 to 9/24.

I would rearrange your data and then use a pivot chart. Also, now you can select different categories within one chart.

jcyo233, the plots are bunching up on the left because you're plotting some 3000 points, so there are 3000 categories on your x-axis. Reduce that to plot just the 30 odd points you've got data for and it stops the bunching, but doesn't stop the multiple categories for the same date on the x-axis.

This is a difficult one; I've been playing with it and can't get a straightforward solution.
The problem I'm facing is getting multiple points to show on one date.

jeffreybrown, you've used Sum of Gap in the pivot table, and when there are multiple points on one date they're added! I tried changing that to Average of Gap which better represents the data, but still we lose the individual points for that data.

I attach your data set, re-arranged to play with.
