Default Using the columns functions

hello guys, i have a question in a test that sounds like this,

Using the Columns function get the Row number in wich values: "11:00 AM"; "Number2" and "Name2" reside in Question Table. The result should be a formula that will work when you drag it to the right

how can i use the columns function to get a row number?

thanks for your time

In it's simplest form, put this in A1 and drag to the right.

=COLUMN(A1)

This will convert column A and so on to a number.

Even though your spreadsheet has letters running horizontally and numbers vertically, the spreadsheet is actually a grid.

To illustrate this on your spreadsheet...

File >> Options >> Excel Options >> Formulas >> Working with formulas>> R1C1 reference style

Hey, thanks for the quick response, but in my case the 11:00 AM case, is in B42, and the test tell me to use the columns formula in combination with another formula of course, to find out the row number which in my case is 42.

Just using Column() will give me the number 2..

What column is equal to 42? I've already explained how you can determine which column is 42. Since this is a test, I don't want to do it for you.
