Default Office 2003 user somewhat lost in 2007!

After spending about fifteen years with Office 2003, I was more or less forced to upgrade to 2007 last week when the latest Win 10 Version (1803) arrived. I’m not complaining, but I AM a bit confused. So I’ve a few questions that I’ll throw out and see what, if any, results I get with an older product and a still older user!

Be advised that I didn’t JUST purchase Office 2007. I’ve had it since its inception. I just didn’t like it, so I didn’t use it. The ribbon seemed like overkill and, while I know there’s a commercial way around it, I always felt MS should have provided some decent alternatives. End of mini-rant.

Excel 2007 seems to start extremely slowly. One suggestion was to use “/a” to eliminate any addins that might be present. In point of fact, that command line switch DID produce instantaneous execution. The problem is that a; there WERE no evident addins to bypass, and that switch ALSO negates any macros. Not acceptable. I’d like to solve the slow start and still retain the macro capability. I’d also like to eliminate the splash screen.

I’d like all the components to default to the older file types, ie; .doc, .xls, etc. I found how to do that in Excel, but can’t seem to find it in Word.

I’d like to see a working list of all the command line, or program, switches. I’ve seen several lists, all a bit different, none of which seem to work the way they’re advertised. I guess I’d also like to learn how to string a few of those together, including a filename, and plug them it all into a “shortcut”.

That should be enough for today. I’ll now read through the forum and seek the answers that I should have before I bothered you with this, perhaps, extraneous note!

Thanks for listening.
