We create somewhere around a thousand copies of this file a month, since each client gets a customized version, so it's a fairly substantial disk space hog.

In that situation it is incomprehensible to me why you can't have access to the macro as you obviously are the one trying to repair the file.

You can't share your (anonymized) file, you don't have access to the macros - I give up on this.
