How do I remove all the tab characters in cells? The More button is not in the find & replace box like it is in Word where I can click the More button, then choose the character I want to replace. I tried the Trim function and the Clean function, but they didn't work. What did they do with the More button?

Firefox is my browser, I highlight your thread title, right click, select... Search Google for "remove tabs fro..."

The second item returned is about the CLEAN function which you indicate having already tried. It says that ascii code values 0 through 31 are removed which should have worked for you as tab is ascii 9 .

Are you sure it's tab characters that need dealt with ?

Running this macro will display in the Immediate Window, character by character, the ascii codes that Excel sees in the active cell.

Nosparks thanks, but that macro doesn't do anything when I click on it. Pecoflyer thanks...those functions look like they will fix my problem.

do this:

select a single cell on a sheet that you're wanting the said tab eliminated from

hit the Alt and F11 keys at the same time ~> this opens the Visual Basic Environment

on the menu line click Insert

from the drop down click Module

copy and paste the code from #2 into this new Module

hit the Ctrl and g keys at the same time ~> this opens the Immediate Window

place your cursor anywhere in the sub you pasted into the module

hit the F5 key

does anything appear in the Immediate Window ?

Nosparks thanks, I will have to wait until I get another spreadsheet with that problem. I tested that sub on another spreadsheet using the way you explained in the previous post, and it showed all the ascii characters in the immediate window like you said, but the data was clean.
