Default Conditional Formatting a column

I'm trying to conditionally format an entire column: For example

I want column H to turn red when Column I has a value less than Column H. But I want it to match up with the row, so H33 changes with I33, H34 changes with the value of I34.

Highlight your range H2:H100

Create a new rule with =I2 < H2

I created the rule, after selection the range, and it still didn't format correctly to turn red.

How exactly did you apply the condition? Did you highlight the range starting with the top of the range to the end? Are the numbers actually numbers? Place the given formula in J2. What do you get if H2 = 5 and I2 = 3? True or False. I get True and therefore H2 gets highlighted.
