Barcode scanner inventory check with excel 2016
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to work this out and any advise would be grateful.
I've got a barcode scanner to check inventory and i will be using excel to do this. When I scan the item it automatically types the number and goes to the next line. Is there a way of when I scan something in it adds what the item is in the next column, instead of just putting the number? At the moment it just does this Barcode 001111 001211 But i'd like it to do this Barcode 001111 Hat 001211 Scarf then i'd like it recognize the barcodes instead of repeating them individuall. At the moment it does this 001111 001111 001111 i'd like it to do this instead. 001111 hat 3 I hope this makes sense, i'm kind of struggling |

The last part can be done easily with a pivot table.
The first part...not quite sure. Where is the information for hat and scarf coming from? Is there a table that you have that has the codes? If so, you can do a lookup. If you have a sample file, that would help. |

Hi thank you for the reply.
Sorry I should've been more clear. I wanted it to register that once I scanned something in it would say what it was i was scanning in not just the numbers. If that makes sense? |

Where is it that you scan the bar code to ?
As gebobs mentioned.... a sample file would help. At least then everybody can be referring to and working with the same thing. |

Your workbook needs to included the database of products with the matching barcode number and a description.
On your working worksheet, add a helper column (say column b) next to the column you are scanning into (say, column A). In column B use a lookup formula to join the scanned barcode from column A with the description from the product worksheet. Good luck with it. |
