Default Vlookup returns drop down list

Hi,

I've been searching for a solution to my problem for weeks without any luck so I'm hoping you guys can help!

I'll do my best to explain.

Is there a way for Vlookup to search a table array which has multiple drop down lists and return a drop down list?

Currently Vlookup searches my table and returns the current position of a list in the table, but the list functionality is gone. I'd like it return the list and let the user have the drop down functionality.

Does that make sense? Possible?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi XOR,

Thanks for the reply. I made a quick Demo file. See attached.

I would like my vlookup to return a fully functional drop down list.

In my example the vlookup is searching the table for the number 1 and returns mustang, which is the current position of the drop down list within the table. The returned cell (F1) has lost the functionality of the drop down list.

I would like the drop down function to remain and be independent of the position of the drop down list in the table array.

Hope that makes sense?

Thanks!

Andrew

I'm not so sure it's going to work with a vlookup controlling a data validation, but check out this example. Using D2, if the user enter a 1 then the array Fruit is returned, but if a 2, then Vegetable array is returned. Look at K1.

This is all done with an if statement inside the data validation source.

Thanks Jeffrey,

I'll have to play around with the concept. I was trying to get around having to use "if" statements. Were using conversion software that takes excel files and turns them into html with a server side node.js and it has limitations as to how many "if" statements I can use per cell.

Thanks

Andrew
