Default Excel: Dates in a chart

Part 1 - Started a data list date as 9/1/2016. I now want to show the date as 9/1, however, when the date is changed it resets back to the 9/1/2016 format. How can I use the 9/1 date format?

Part 2: I want to engage a chart to full letter page size when the chart is printed. However, when I drag the corner of the chart to enlarge it addition (and unwanted) dates appear. How can I enlarge the chart without showing unwanted dates?

Thanks,

Dyeaton

If you create a column with your dates (or row), 9/1, 9/2, 9/3 ect, select all your data points and then right click > go 'Format Cells' > select the 'Number' tab > Select category 'General', that I would assume should fix the issue of your input reverting back to 9/1/2016 ect...

RE your second question, have you tried turning off the 'Data Labels'? Click on the graph, and if you have excel ED 2013, click the green arrow that appears at the top right of the graph, deselect 'Data Labels'

Default Excel Data Labels

Easyaspie

Thanks for responding to my questions.

Your response for the 1st question solved the problem.

However, I can't use your 2nd suggestion, I do not have the ED 2013 of Excel.

I do have the following edition: "Mac 2011 v. 14.6.8.

I cannot find "Data Labels" in my Excel version; can you suggest how to find "Data Labels"?

Thanks,

Dyeaton
