Default Setting Preferences

I work with several software products, and create files that all have the same name, when they're related and need to be kept together. The only difference is in the file extension. For this reason, I need to be able to view the file extensions 100% of the time, wherever they appear.

Things got messed up when someone from IT did some work on my computer. I only see file names, NOT extensions. I fixed it in File Explorer, so I can view the full file name there. However, when I go into Excel and click File>Save As, the extension is missing from the File Name field. The same is true with Word and Visio, but those are topics for a different forum.

I've gone through the Options and can't find anything similar to "Hide File Extensions" that you see in Organize>Folder and Search options. Where is this option located in Excel?

Thank you!

The only thing I can see is that you don't have it fixed in the Windows Explorer...

So is this what you did...?

Open Windows Explorer

Organize >> Folder and Search Options >> Folder Options >> View

Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
