Default Macro to Dismiss Links to Corrupt Workbook

iMAC with OS 10.14

Workbook1 with macros is corrupt (believe macros the reason for corruption, though not sure - getting not enough memory messages. Cannot change cell entries or save file. Have used workbook1 for a long time with no issues, then suddenly this problem.

Created Workbook2 and copied worksheet1 from workbook1 into worksheet 1 of Workbook2. Workbook2 is not corrupt, works fine, saves okay, no error messages, does not have the macros.

On opening workbook2, a message comes up asking to establish links to workbook1. If answered Yes corrupt workbook 1 opens and closes workbook2. Am answering No, workbook2 opens and functions properly.

Plan to copy macros from workbook1 to MS Word, and then copy from Word to workbook2 (haven't done this yet), - hoping this intermediate step eliminates any corruption source in the macros. Is this correct thinking?

Is there an on-open macro I can use in workbook2 dismissing the message and any linking to the corrupt workbook1?
