Unhappy Copy / paste

I am using Excel 2007 and this is the first time that I have encountered this problem.

When I attempt to copy a cell, not only is the cell I want to copy highlighted, but the cell immediately to the right is also highlighted. There is a small o in the bottom right corner of the second (unwanted) cell.

I can grab the o and move it so that it is in the original cell I want to copy, but this is a painful work-around.

What is going on? How may I fix this? Further compounding the issue is that it does not happen with every cell.

Note the following:

1. If you click on any cell within Column A, the cell immediately adjacent in Column B will be highlighted as one. It is as if they were linked somehow.

2. If you click on any cell within Column B, the cell immediately adjacent in Column C will be highlighted as one. It is as if they were linked somehow.

3. If you click on any cell within Column C, it does not happen.

4. If you click on any cell within Column D, the cell immediately adjacent in Column E will be highlighted as one. It is as if they were linked somehow.

5. If you click on any cell within Column E, the cell immediately adjacent in Column F will be highlighted as one. It is as if they were linked somehow.

6. If you click on any cell within Column F, the cell immediately adjacent in Column G will be highlighted as one. It is as if they were linked somehow.

7. If you click on any cell within Column G, it does not happen.

8. If you click on any cell within Column H, it does not happen.

Thanks for helping me with this perplexing issue.

I tried everything you explained and nothing unusual happened (nothing highlighted).

If you copy paste the entire sheet to another sheet or workbook, does the behavior still occur?

Hmmm

That is perplexing as I did try what you had suggested and the "new" sheet did the same thing that had occurred on the "old" sheet.

I will start from scratch. Hopefully, that will work.

Interestingly, I have developed three other separate spreadsheets and they all worked as intended. Did not have any "extra" cells highlighted when I went to copy/paste one cell to other cells.

Appreciate your assistance.
