Default Find does not work

Sometimes I can find a cell using find, other times not. Although this is used primarily for cells formatted for text, the same is true for number. It appears that for some sheets find will never work, and on others it always work. So do I need to do for find to be able to work?

When you say "doesn't work", what do you mean? Perhaps post a sample sheet showing where it goes wrong.

I don't know how to post a sample sheet. I do have two jpgs. But its very simple: on sheets in which find works, "find all" returns a list of cells containing the designated text string. When it isn't, "find all" returns the message "Microsoft office cannot find the data you're searching for", even though it too is in multiple cells, in sheets formatted exactly the same way as those for which find is working.

If you take some time and go to FAQ, you'll find this:
How do I attach a file to a post?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file. To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page. Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window. You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

What files types can I use? How large can attachments be?

In the attachment window you will find a list of the allowed file types and their maximum sizes. Files that are larger than these sizes will be rejected. There may also be an overall quota limit to the number of attachments you can post to the board.

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums (?) in this way too.

Talking Actual problem sheet and screen shots

As you can tell from the screen shots, it's the OF excel sheet that does not work and does not return any of the expected text strings. The SP sheet returns a long list of the expected string.

I hope having the actual sheets will allow you to troubleshoot the problem.

Thanks!

Which string are you searching for? The images are unreadable

Default Find not working -- new screenshots

Perhaps these will help, but as I apparently haven't made clear, the information for which I am using "find all" could be the complete or partial contents of a cell; text or number. There is simply no "find all" that returns any results for any of the many items that appear on the sheet. On the SP shot, you can see the long list of results for NYM, whereas on the OF sheet I get no results for ARI, despite the fact that two cells containing it are visible. You should already have the actual sheets from the previous reply.

Smile Works for me now, too

Thank God for screengrabs, otherwise this would be just like when you bring your car to the mechanic because it's making a noise that it stops making as soon as you pull up to the garage.

There was nothing special about the find all, as you can see from the one that works. However, I tried what's worked in the past, which was to copy the entire sheet and past it into a new sheet, and that appears to have alleviated the issue.

You will hear from me again if it happens again. Otherwise, cheers!

Try clicking the options button on the find dialog. See if "match entire cell contents" is checked. If I know something is there and Excel can't "find" it, that is usually the case.

Also bear in mind that if you have more than one cell selected, Excel will only search that selection.

Ahhhh...that's it exactly. The OP has line 1137 selected in his OF sheet.
