The link you provided clearly solves the issue of creating a second instance, but fails to address or solve the question at hand: opening the second instance in a window physically detached from the first.

Maybe the problem is with MS excel 2010, because I just happen to get access to a PC setup with 2013, and this pending issue does not seem to exist.

If this is indeed the case, I am wondering if MS provides a patch for this limitation.
