Default Formulas transferring to other pages in workbooks, but data isn't.

I have a multipage spreadsheet where I want to take data input on page one and transfer it to page two. I selected the cell on page two, put in the equal sign and then went to page one and clicked on the cell. The cell in page two said page1!B4, but not the data in cell B4 on pg. 1. What did I do?

Try an equal sign?

Otherwise, please attach a sample of your workbook and it will probably be clear right away.

when using the "=" on a worksheet 1 in a cell, and then go to the worksheet 2 to get the data, the formula is showing ='prev oh job wages eff 5-12-2015'!H10 in the cell on worksheet 1 and not the data from the cell in worksheet 2
I've tried to attach a document showing exactly what I mean, but I can't

Are you the original poster?

When in Worksheet1, try File: Options: Advanced: Display options for this worksheet

Uncheck "Display formulas in cells rather than their calculated results".

No, I'm not the original poster.

The "Show formulas in cells instead of their calculated results" was not clicked. I did work around the problem, by moving the = to another cell and that cell showed the calculated result. I tried everything, making sure the cells were formatted the same. I think it might have something to do with the cells I'm accessing are merged cells and Excel might be confused, or it just me and I don't know what I'm doing! Thank you so much for trying to help.
