Default I would like a function to add sequential numbers to a class number/name

Hi all

I need some help please.

I have a formula to input the information from one cell to another if there is something in the originating cell. =IF('Class Info'!A5=0,"",'Class Info'!$C$1). Happy with that. However, I now need to add sequential numbers to this

I have ABCD1234 entered in cell C1 (a cell in the 'class info' sheet) and I would like this class number in another sheet ('Format sheet' GF5) that will add a hyphen and sequential numbering, resulting in:
ABCD1234-1
ABCD1234-2
ABCD1234-3
Etc

I have also posted a similar post in Word but it is probably best done in excel and then the field added to the document and populated when merged.
Hope this makes sense.

As you have not posted a sample sheet. If those ABCD1234 in A1:A3, in B1 use:
"=A1&"-"&ROW()" & copy down.

You also asked about this in another thread: https://www.msofficeforums.com/mail-...as-merged.html

Please don't ask what is essentially the same question in multiple threads.

Excellent!
Thank you very much Kevin, greatly appreciated.

In addition - Is there a way to adapt the formula so that the cells in column B will remain blank until there is something (ABCD1234) in column A If the formula was already in place?

Regards

G
