Hi

I have created a report template using microsoft word and I have linked it to excel (various cells in excel) - to make the report writing process easier.



I now want to be able to copy the linked files (word and excel), rename them and have them link in the same way but such that they don't link back to the original files. I'll then want to do this several times, in other words for every report I write I will need to do this.

Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

To do that, you'll have to edit the links in the Word document to reflect the changed name and/or path.

Thanks for that. I saw that you can change the source but then you cannot keep the item the same (i.e. the references to the cells in the spreadsheets). Or is there a way around that.

If you open the document and press Alt-F9, your links will most likely convert to something like:
{ LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:\\Users\\Firooz\\Documents\\Workbook.xls" "Sheet1!R1C1:R10C10" \a \f 5 \h }
You can then use Find/Replace to change whatever parts of the path & filename have changed. Note the use of \\ as the path separator. When you're done, press Alt-F9 again to restore the linked display, then Ctrl-A, F9 to update the links.
