How lock a row to prevent accidental changes
Hi, I'm quite new to making Excel 2016 sheet tables. When I've entered data in a record (row) I'd want to lock it with a simple click to prevent accidental changes to it. And the opposite, to unlock it if and when I need to make changes. I'm the only user. I've noticed that on long rows, many columns, it is too easy to enter a change or addition on an adjacent row, especially if it is in an out-to-the right column. Thus, once a row is finished i'd want to lock it, for a while. Is there a way to do that? Sverk |

Select the cells you want to protect, then choose Format|Lock Cell then Format|Protect Sheet|OK. Done.

Locks whole sheet, not selected row(s)
Thanks Paul,
but I can't get it to work for me. The whole sheet gets locked, not just the row(s) i wanted to protect. And when I unlock the sheet, everything is unlocked. I'm on version 2016, but that shouldn't be different from 2010 on things like this, right? |

Sorry, I omitted a vital first step:
Select the entire sheet, choose Format|Format Cells|Protection, then uncheck the 'Locked' option.

Yes, now it works, but I'd then want to unlock cingle rows
Yes, thanks, now it works, I can lock parts of the sheet while other parts remain editable.
I coul use that for some of what I want. But as it seems, if I want to occasionally edit on a row in the locked portion of the sheet I see no way to unlock just that row, I have to unlock the whole sheet, right? And to lock it again I have to go through the whole routine again. Wouldn't be convenient enough that I'd use it much. Or am I missing something here? Sverk |

Unprotecting unprotects the whole worksheet, so all your locked cells become editable. To re-apply the locking, simply re-apply the sheet protection - you don't need to redo the other steps.
