Default Excel sheets open as Wordpad

Whenever I finish an excel sheet (MS Office 2007 & Windows 10), I save it as normal. Whenever I try to reopen any finished/saved sheet, it only opens as Wordpad. When I try the "open with" option, excel does not show as one of the options. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

As I don't use Windows much, you'll have to Google around I suppose.
In earlier versions it could be done in Windows Explorer I think

I would try repairing Office from Control Panel. That will often correct file association issues.

Save an Excel file to your desktop. Does the icon appear to be Excel?

Hi gebobs,

When I save it to the desktop as an excel workbook, it saved it as Microsoft Office Word.
