The number formats that are supported are determined by your system's regional settings. Change yours to a UK/US/Aus regional setting, for example, and the numbers will re-format themselves.

Is it a real number or text looking like a number?

A1 is misformatted number as per example.

B1 =VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A1,".",","),",",".",2 ))

Format B1 as number and select 1000's seperator

That will neither correct the original number in-situ nor address a number formatting issue - it will only work with numeric text. It also won't work with numeric text numbers less than 1000 or greater than 999999.99
