Default excel functions

WORKBOOK 1.xlsx

WORKBOOK 2.xlsx

Hi, I am new to this forum and my knowledge of excel is very basic. I have to workbooks. I wish to enter a date in a cell in workbook (2) but if it does not match the date in a nominated cell in Workbook (1) I require it to return an error message in workbook (2 ).

Can this be done?

You can try
Copy both workbooks in the same folder, eg C:\test
Open Workbook2 and add two extra columns that you can hide
Set two VLOOKUP formula (see attach)
In the B and C column set two conditions for Conditional Formatting, if the condition does not match paint it red font
