Default Sorting question

W7 + Office 07 & Help is no help.

Spreadsheet with columns A-->M. All columns have text labels. All Columns, excluding the one which I wish to sort by, contain various empty row cells. Column M is formatted as date and all cells in the column have a date. I want to sort the spreadsheet so that all the rows are listed by the earliest date indicated in column M?

The solution was fairly lame so I didn't post the specific. I'm used to an older version of Excel that (I believe) had a primary and secondary sort field. This time, after selecting the col to be used as the sort criteria, then telling Excel to sort, I got the dialogue box that (to me) was unclear and to which I had previously hesitated 'going for' This time I saved my stuff, and did do as prompted and all turned out well :-). Sometimes ignorance is indeed bliss.

Default Workbook sorting problem

When I opened microsoft excell, the blank workbook is not sorted right. The columns are sorted backward. instead of A,...,Z,.... they are sorted backward.

Rows are sorted right; 1,2,.....

Would you please help me to fix this issue?

Thanks
