I understand macro shortcuts are Ctrl+ a letter.

This limits them to 26 per workbook. Is this correct?

Assigning a letter deactivates the existing Excel shortcut. So if I assign 'O' to a macro shortcut, applying this obviously runs the macro and does not open a new workbook. Does this not rather reduce the range and functionality of Macro shortcuts?

You can also use cntl-shift. I think you can use numbers and even characters. The only shortcuts I generally use are copy, paste, and a few others so, for me, reassigning them is never an issue.

My question is, once created, how does one change a macro's shortcut?

Then again, I prefer toolbar buttons.

I have set up a Macro in worksheet which is specific to that worksheet/book. I have given it a button, which is renamed 'Output' (A plus for originality!). I would like to modify the shape, shading etc of the button. how do I do this.

AFAIK, we're limited to the 150 or so lame icons offered. I usually use the 8-ball. :-)

If there is a way to get other icon sets, let me know. It's positively primitive.

Where are the icons you refer to and how do I connect to them. As far as I can see I can only access the basic button.

* Right click the Quick Access toolbar to customize
* Choose command from: Macros
* Double click the macro you want to add. It will appear at the bottom of the list of items on your QATB.
* Using the arrows on the right, position the icon where you want.
* Click Modify and the selection of lame icons appears.

If I want to use a button within the worksheet rather than in the QATB, how do I change the appearance of that?

Oh, you're talking about the buttons in the Controls Toolbox. There are two kinds. The ones on top are Form Controls. AFAIK, these can only have text. The ones on the bottom are ActiveX Controls. You can right-click on the button to bring up the Properties sheet and one off them is Picture.
