Commas within fields in .csv files
When reading data from .csv files, Excel appears to be able to distinguish between, on the one hand, commas which separate fields from one another and, on the other, commas which occur within fields. How does it do that?

Such fields require the use of double-quote pairs to enclose the content. For example:
123,"456,789",0123
