You are right. Very same issue with different colors.
This must be a new "feature" in 2013 since it wasn't
An issue In earlier versions. I tried a couple of things
And without going the vba route I think that your best
Bet is to store your data you want to change on a


Separate worksheet and reference it on the user
Worksheet. This way you can hide it with the same
Method and change it on the other worksheet
Easily. (sorry for strange capitalization I'm typing this
