I have 2 spreadsheets and I know how to use vlookup to return a value from a specified column. However, I want to return the entire row. Help!

I found the solution for simply returning the row. However, that is not exactly what I'm looking for. I filtered a column on my spreadsheet for dates < 1/1/16 and pasted the values onto another sheet. Now I (think) I want to use Vlookup to find other rows on the first spreadsheet that match a particular column for the dates >1/1/16 but < 1/1/17. Then I want the entire matching row from the first spreadsheet returned. Am I making sense yet???

A formula in a cell cannot return an entire row or output results to a different cell. Granted, you could incorporate the logic to retrieve the data from adjacent cells into the formula, but the results would all be returned in the cell containing the formula.

If I understand correctly you want to return an entire row's worth of data. I am a firm believer that anything in Excel is possible and this would be something that sounds like VBA could be the answer. Can you post a sample workbook with the data and a specified cell showing the desired result? I will be happy to see what I can come up with for you.

It can be done using a simple INDEX function used as an array. Please post a sample sheet - Thx

A colleague just showed me how to examine my data using a pivot table. I think that will work for me (for now). I was so proud of my new abilities with using Vlookup, I thought it would solve most of my Excel data examination needs. I did read up on the Index function and was looking at how that might work for me. Alas, I'll work with pivot table for the time being. I have a long way to go in my Excel proficiency. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your responses. (You'll hear from me again...)

Also, am I supposed to 'like' a good response? I'm looking for such a button but don't see one.
