Default Cell properties: next cell

Hi folks,
Is there a way to create a property for a cell that always sends the cursor to a specific cell after entering data in this one?
I can't imagine why this isn't one of the most common questions!
Cheers,
Keith

Hi, Keith. The general principle is that worksheet functions can affect only the value displayed in that cell, not in any other cell. Offhand it seems to me that must apply to moving the selection to another cell, too.

You can do it, but not with worksheet functions; you'd have to do it with VBA. Re-ask the question in the Excel-Programming forum and you'll get a useful answer, I think—if, that is, you're open to a VBA-macro solution.

Thanks Bob, I'll do that. Having to execute a macro manually would defeat the object, but if there is a way that VBA can recognise when a value (any value) is entered into a cell and self-execute, then yes, that would be a happy answer.

Yes, there is! You can write a macro with a particular name—WorsheetChange, or something like that; I've done it but I forget the exact name—and store it in a particular place, not an ordinary module but another place which we can show you, and as a result the macro will run every time someone changes a cell value. Then you can teach the macro to check which cell was changed (and exit if it's anything but a certain range, so that normally no one will notice it's there at all), but if the change meets certain criteria the macro will do whatever you choose, such as moving the selection to another cell of your choice.

[Later:] I forgot, I have such a macro in a worksheet I keep open almost all the time. It's called Worksheet_Change.

Hey, Peco. Yeah, I've been away doing actual work, which takes away a lot from the fun here. I'm not sure what to think about the Moderator thing; I don't remember doing anything to deserve it. Guess it's just my sterling character .

I dropped by here to respond to a private message, and thought I'd answer a question or two just for fun. But I'll probably get lost in my real job again after this. I spend more time here when I'm between jobs.

Thanks for the welcome, though.
