Default How to see if file is open by authorized user

Prior to Excel 2013 when you would click on open and show a folder, the files would be listed and grayed out would be one that another authorized user has open. In Excel 2013, all files are listed and not until you open one does it say that someone has it open. Can this be changed so I would not have to open the file to see if it's already opened?
