Default Comparing two sentences in two different columns

Hi All,

I have pasted details from an xml on to a column (A) in an excel sheet. This same excel sheet contains the same details in another column (B).

I was able to add the formula =exact(A1, B1) to find out if both the sentences from column A and column B matches, as well as, I have filtered column A and B to - Sort A to Z

It works! But to an extent.

But even after filtering the columns, the sentences don't match in the same row.

For example, in column A, the following sentence states, "Hi! My name is XYZ." and in column B, the following sentence states, "Hi! My name is XYZ"

Please note the full stop in the above mentioned sentences.

But both the above mentioned sentences do not appear in the same row but stead away from each other. And because of this the result I'm getting after applying the formula is FALSE.

There are like a 100 sentences in both columns A and B. But they are all jumbled up because of such small minor differences. Is there an option to place the same sentences in one row?

I hope you are able to understand what I'm trying to say here.

Thanks.

Are they getting jumbled after a sort or are they that way from the source?

Well.. The sentences are already jumbled, which means, in both column A and B none of the same sentences are side by side. So I tried using the filter (Sort A to Z).

It didn't work. Maybe because there are many sentences starting with A or B and so on...

Is there any other way to place both the same sentences side by side?

I'm sorry, I can't. I'll try to elaborate my problem.

I have written down about 100 sentences in an excel sheet (version 1) a long time ago. And those same 100 sentences was copied and pasted in a xml (version 1). But note, I jumbled up those sentences intentionally in the xml.

But a few days later I updated a few sentences in the excel sheet (version 2). But I'm not sure if I added all the updated sentences in the xml (version 2).

So I copied the sentences from from the xml (version 2) and pasted them in the excel sheet (version 2), in column B. The updated sentences in the excel sheet (version 2) is placed in column A.

I now added a formula [=exact (A1, B1)] in column C and dragged that cell all the way down. Remember as I have mentioned earlier, I jumbled up the sentences in the xml intentionally. Which means, in column C where I have added the formula, it shows False. That's because, none of the sentences in column A and B are in the same row.

Is there any way to place the same sentences even with a minor detail difference in the same row? That way I can differentiate if there's even a full stop missing from the sentence.

I hope you can understand the above problem I'm facing.

Thanks for replying.

Nope...doesn't really help me much. Please attach a sample file with a few examples of the problems you are facing. You don't have to use the actual data if they are sensitive. Make it up.

At some point, some problems just have to be done the old-fashioned way. In your case, proofreading. I'm not very good at it so I understand your reluctance to rely on proofreading. Especially when it's one's own work.
