Hey everyone,
I am trying to create a formula where I can select a title from a drop down list in Excel and have the attached term display in an adjacent cell. I already have a drop down list created using 105 terms. There are 5 terms matched to a group of terms in the dropdown menu. They are shown below. The bold terms are the term that I need to be displayed if one of its group members is picked. Thank You! Housing Custom Homes Sale/Spec Homes General_Building Aircraft Sales/Service Airline Terminal Animal/Plant/Fish Facility Apartments/Condominiums 1-3 Stories Apartments/Condominiums 4+ Stories Athletic Facility Bank Beach/Marina Facility Bowling Alley Capitol/Courthouse/City Hall Casino Clinic/Medical Office College/University Communication Building Covention & Exhibition Center Dormitory Elderly/Assisted Living Fire/Police Station Food/Beverage Service Freight Terminal Funeral/Interment Facility Gas/Chemical Plant Hospital Hotel/Motel Indoor Arena Kindergarten Library Manufacturing Building Middle/Senior High School Military Facility Miscellaneous Miscellaneous Recreational Museum Nursing/Convalescent Center Office Parking Garage Passenger Terminal Post Office Pre-School Primary School Prison/Jail Refinery Regional Shopping Center Retail(Other) Shopping Center Social Club Space Facility Stadium Supermarket Swimming Pool Testing/Research/Development Lab Theater/Auditorium Vehicle Sales/Service Vocational School Warehouse Warehouse (Refridgerated) Worship Facility Utilities Air Pollution Control Cogeneration Plant Dry Waste Treatment Plant Electric Substation Guidance Detection Tracking System Hazardous Waste Disposal Heating/Cooling Plant Hydroelectric Plant Industrial Waste Disposal Nuclear Power Plant Power Plant (Other) Sewage Treatment Plant Tower/Signal System Water Treatment Plant Engineering Airport Lighting Athletic Lighting Bridge Communication Lines Dock/Pier Dredging Flood Control Fuel/Chemical Line Highway Signs/Guardrails Hydroelectric Landscaping Mobile Home Park Park/Playground Paving Pedestrian Tunnel Power Lines Railroad Roadway Lighting Runway/Taxiway Sanitary Sewer Shoreline Maintenance Sidewalk/Parking Lot Site Development Storage Tank(Other) Storm Sewer Utility Tunnel Vehicle Tunnel Water Line Water Supply Water Tank Unclassified Unclassified Last edited by jmont18; 07-27-2014 at 05:37 PM. So if Airport Lighting is selected from the drop down, you want Engineering displayed in an adjacent cell?
If so, that can be done by putting the category next to each subcategory (Engineering to the right of Airport lighting, etc.) and just do a vlookup. You might want to consider, nested dropdowns in which case you would select one of the 5 categories (Housing, Gen'l Building, etc.) which would then populate another dropdown with the subcategories for that category. You can read how to do that here. I have attached an example using your data. |
