Could not load an object as it is not available on this machine - Excel 2010
Hi guys,
Got an issue that is driving me mad. Every time a user accesses this file, he always gets the error messages: "Could not load an object as it is not available on this machine" & "Compile error in hidden module: MenuUtilities2" (or something along those lines) I've looked around and checked if there is any files in the startup folders for excel, no luck. Anyone got an idea? Thanks |

Does it only happen when opening a specific file? If so, it seems to me that the file has some VBA, probably written in a previous version of Excel, that has become orphaned in the current version.

Yeah, it's just that specific file, written by an external company.
I've tried accessing the code for it actually, but it is password protected. |

Hi
Have you got all updates installed? Probably an old version of the MSCOMCTL.ocx might cause the error. You should find the file in Windows\SysWOW64. The properties to the file should show the version 6.1.98.39 - that's the newest one as far as I know. In case your machine doesn't count with that version I suggest, that you first ask the "external company" what they've got in use to verify if indeed the MSCOMCTL is involved and the reason which raises the error. |

This could possibly be the problem, I'll have to do a check with the user as soon as possible.
One thing I noticed was that on my PC, the file does work fine. However, I am using Office 2003 and the MSCOMCTL.OCX file is not up-to-date. My colleague beside me can also open the file, and he is using Office 2010. His MSCOMCTL.OCX is up-to-date. The user who has been having the problem, has Office 2010 and his MSCOMCTL.OCX file isn't up-to-date, I'll see if I can update this. So I'm wondering if it is to do with the MSCOMCTL.OCX file and Office 2010? I will let you know the outcome. |

As you can see by the path the MSCOMCTL.OCX comes with the OS and hasn't got anything to do with MS Office - it only can be used by the Office program.
Just for you to know: There was a problem with the update of this file, so you might experience difficulties to install a newer version of the file. Therefore I suggested, to contact the external company first. The developer should know what's required to run his "program" and if MSCOMCTL.OCX is really the cause of the error. ... yes I would apreciate to know any solutions you find, or even if not ... |

No luck updating that file
Going to contact the sender of the file, it's strange how only two people (so far) have the issue opening the file. While, myself and a colleague can open it completely fine! |
