Default Time from text function

=TEXT(B2-A2,"hh.mm")
Cells A2 is start time
Cell B2 is end time of course results are in cell C2

What I would like to do is see that same number in another cell but as a number

so Cell F2 "=C2"

if there is a post on this some where else that I haven't found I apologize, if you can point me in the right direction...

Thank you for your time..

This is to keep track of work hours, I need to add the hours up for each week but if I use sum it shows 0.00

Why not just have the calculation in C2, but format it so that it displays as you like? Or if need the text in one and the number in the other, just write the equation again and format it anyway you want...time, decimal, etc.

Default Text Function Help

I have upload a file in which the time difference between start time and finish time is a formula using Text function to convert to time but in cells G5:G8 & I5:I8 I would like those to update automatically , they will but then any additional formulas I have that use those cell as a reference don't work... format is a number in a cells??? if you change the cell G5 to =F5 the number in M8 will change and because I typed the numbers in manually the formula works..

Thank you to all the response//
I appreciate your time on this matter

As I asked before, why go to the bother of writing and displaying the text function? Just have the equation =C5-B5 and format as "h:mm". Times and dates are nothing more than floating point numbers (e.g. July 9, 2014 8:32am = 41829.35581). Why not just use those numbers instead of adding all that unnecessary complexity?

I have attached a sheet with the first week. Without any familiarity with your time keeping system, I don't understand exactly what the purpose is for some of the columns.

And what I said about unnecessary complexity become clear with your equations for columns K-M. K seems to be a running total of hours worked but for some reason, K7 has an added term.

The company I work for uses time cards to punch in and out with, and the format is what I have in my spreadsheet. Yes I know it's a lot of work for something so trivial but I have not worked in excel since 2003 and a lot has change (Oh my goodness have they ever) and I would like to get back into it again. Again, it's been awhile and the more I play around with different ways of doing it, I know it will be come easier and more efficient.

gebobs thank you for your time. I am having a problem opening your file. it shows as attachment.php

That's odd. It opens fine for me. What version of Excel do you have?

Could you attach the raw output from the time card system?

So you're entering the data manually eh? Just do as I say above and type in times as "5:45" and "12:37". Should work fine. If you would like some help developing your sheet, let me know. I think this is the most logical way to do it.

I have Excel 2010 so you should be able to open my docs. It seems to me that maybe you're not downloading it correctly. Have you checked your download folder?

Just on behalf of downloads, it happens to me as well that the download will be a .php-format, which doesn't open in excel.
To download the file nonetheless, choose "save as" and just type in the desired file's name together with it's format. Click ok, and the file can be used in excel.
