Default Sumifs

I need to use a sumifs function I believe? I need to pull data from another tab to sum up for certain date range.

I need a cell to pull the number of units for a year to date comparison year over year. The beginning date is always 09.01 but then the ending date will change monthly.

I started by putting 09.01.12 in cell G16 for the beginning date & then in cell H16 05.31.13 for the ending date that I need to sum up from the other tab.

The other tab has the data all filled in for the entire year already (through 08.31.13). Is it possible to just sum up the date range that I want and then monthly just change the ending date cell and the formula will update?
