Hi everyone,

One of our users keeps getting the following error everytime she tries to save a workbook (attached).

I've tried changing the Offline edition options so the pc doesn't use the Office Document Cache, but the error still appears.

The user is running Windows 8.1 Pro and Office 2013.

Any ideas?

Hi,

The error points to the file being read-only. Is the file on a shared network? Check to make sure nobody else has it open. You can also check if the file properties determines if it should open as read-only. Right click the file in Windows (File) Explorer and check the properties of the file (and the folder/directory it's in) is marked as read-only. One other option to check is if the file has a read-only password connected to it that forces it to open as read-only if no password is provided. Click on the File Ribbon Tab and click on the Protect Workbook button on the Info page. Check if the file has encryption on it, and remove it if it is not needed.

THanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the file had no password. The file is located on the users C: drive and it's not set to read only.

Can you suggest anything else I could check?

The file must have a read only status.
Can you check if the status bar on the file shows [Read Only]. (See image)
If this is the case, Excel will always save it as read only.
