I have column A that has values 1-4 in various cells.
I want for examples:
whatever cells A3 through A30 = "1" then A3,B3,E3,F3 and I3 turn green
Whatever cells A3 through A30 = "2" then A3,B3,E3,F3 and J3 turn blue
Whatever cells A3 through A30 = "3" then A3,B3,E3,F3 and K3 turn gold


Whatever cells A3 through A30 = "4" then A3,B3,G3 and L3 turn orange

color doesn't matter, just need to be different based on numbers 1 through 4 in column A
I am trying to highlight cells that will need input based on number in column A.

(I am really new to this) Just trying to do material take-offs. I can post a file if needed (if I figure out how) I would also like to know how to download posted excel files if needed

setup 4 rules , 1 for each colour

for 2007 or 2010 excel version
Conditional Formatting

Highlight applicable range >>
=$I$3:$I$30,$E$3:$F$30,$A$3:$B$30

Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:

=$A3=1

Format… [Number, Font, Border, Fill]
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
OK >> OK

now repeat for the other values and colours
use the $ so all columns are tested against cell A

see attached sheet conditional format for all 4 colours and numbers

what happens if you double click on the link?

It downloads as a PHP file and now I think I messed it up by somehow making irfanview want to open I. I tried saving as, opening download

does that still use excel to open with

however, you have the way to set-up the conditional formatting
