Setting formatting for field with email hyperlink
I maintain a membership roster using Excel 2007. The roster includes a column for each member's email address, and I've formatted this column so the text appears in plain text. However, every time I add or update an email address, that cell's formatting automatically inserts a hyperlink with a tiny font, forcing me to remove the hyperlink and change the font to the one set for the rest of the worksheet.
I've tried everything I can think to format this column so the format of these cells never changes when I add/update an email address. There's probably a simple way but I cannot find it. How can I do this? Thank you! |

Hi, Jenk,
According to this page, there's an easy way and a hard way. I would go with the easy way - type a hyphen at the beginning of every email address. Now, if you have hundreds of addresses already entered (or even just 20), the easiest way to change all of them that I know of is to change the first one, tab down to the next address and type Ctrl-Y, which means "do what I just did to the last field." So one hand presses the down arrow and the other hand stretches to do Ctrl-Y. It's quite fast and easy, especially if you ever played a keyboard. |

Hi, thank you for your reply. All of the fields in the email column already have the formatting I want - it's only in a new row or when I update the email address in an existing row that the email address defaults to a hyperlink in a tiny font.
I solved this by creating a macro! The macro includes all the steps I use to re-format the email address (remove hyperlink, change font style, change font size, change to Bold). Now it's just one quick 'n easy step: Ctrl+Shift+M. My headache is gone! It works! Jen |
