Default Dumb question

I am new to this forum as well as to the workings of excel. I just purchased the program and not having a clue how it works I bought the book "Excel for Dummies". I have been able to do a worksheet, save and print but that is the extent. Any suggestions to speed up the process of learning this program so I can add it to my resume? Appreciate your comments
